This is camelot rugby
Welcome to Camelot RUFC, where the heart of rugby beats strong and the spirit of camaraderie thrives! Nestled in the vibrant community of Hemel Hempstead, our club stands as a beacon of passion for the sport and a hub of warmth for all who walk through our doors. At Camelot, we believe in the transformative power of rugby, not just on the field but in the lives it touches and the connections it fosters.
Rugby union is more than just a game to us; it’s a way of life. As the sport continues to flourish globally, so too does our dedication to its growth here at Camelot. From the eager smiles of our youngest Cubs to the seasoned veterans of our senior teams, we celebrate the journey of every player who calls Camelot home. With each match, training session, and community event, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering a culture of inclusivity, respect, and excellence.
But our vision extends beyond the boundaries of our club grounds. We are proud to be more than just a rugby club; we are an integral part of our community’s fabric. Through our unwavering dedication to grassroots development, we actively engage with the next generation of rugby stars. One of our proudest initiatives is our provision of free Physical Education (PE) lessons to all 46 local primary schools. By opening our doors and sharing our love for the game, we aim to inspire and empower young minds, instilling not only sporting prowess but also values of teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship. Join us in our quest to nurture the champions of tomorrow, right here at Camelot RUFC. Welcome to the family!
OUR CLUB HISTORY
Camelot Rugby Club, established in 1919 in the wake of World War I by a group of friends at The Swan pub in Hemel Hempstead, has grown from a spirited discussion around a round table into a cornerstone of community sports and camaraderie. Named for the table’s shape and the legendary ideals of unity and valor, the club began with a pitch at Wood Farm, where they once cleared cows to play, financing their efforts with just a sixpence per game.
After pausing during the Second World War, Camelot was revitalized in 1951 and relocated to Chaulden Lane with the aid of the Borough Council and other local entities. The new clubhouse, completed in 1957, expanded the club’s ability to host events and cater to both players and guests, marking a new era of social and competitive rugby.
